Lycian Way FAQ

Answers to the questions walkers ask us most often, from Amber Travel, a local tour operator in Kaş on the Lycian Way.

How long is the Lycian Way?

The original route from Fethiye to Antalya is about 540 km; with newer inland extensions the way-marked network is around 760 km. Most people walk one section in a week. Our tours cover the highlights of the West or East in 8 days.

How long does it take to walk the whole route?

Around five weeks for the full way-marked route. Most walkers do it in sections over several trips.

How does a self-guided tour work?

You walk on your own, at your own pace, on dates you choose. We book your accommodation, move your luggage every day, arrange the transfers, and give you detailed route notes and GPS points. If you need help, our team in Kaş is there to support you.

Do I have to carry my luggage?

No. On all our tours your bags are taken from one night's accommodation to the next. You carry only a day pack.

Can I walk the Lycian Way alone?

Yes. Many of our self-guided clients walk solo. The West tour for a single trekker is 1,199€ in standard accommodation; the East is 1,399€. On group tours a single room costs 225€ extra.

Which airport should I fly to?

For the West section (Fethiye to Patara), fly to Dalaman. For the East section (Antalya to Kekova), fly to Antalya. Transfers are included on our self-guided tours; on the group tour one airport transfer is included.

Where do I stay?

In family-run guesthouses (pansiyons), small hotels and boutique hotels, about a day's walk apart. Our self-guided tours come with a standard or an upper accommodation package to suit your budget. On some nights dinner is included, with a picnic lunch for the trail.

What is included on the guided group tour?

All bag transfers, 7 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 7 dinners, 1 airport transfer, 6 guided treks with a local English-speaking guide, entrance fees to Kayaköy and Patara, transport and insurance. Not included: other lunches, drinks and tips. 2027 departures are from 895€ per person.

Is the route well marked?

Yes, with red and white paint stripes and yellow signposts at junctions. We also give self-guided walkers route notes and GPS points for every day.

When is the best time to go?

April, May, September and October. See our guide to the best time to hike the Lycian Way.

How fit do I need to be?

You should be comfortable walking 5–6 hours on rocky paths several days in a row. See how difficult the Lycian Way is.
