How Difficult Is the Lycian Way?

The Lycian Way is a moderate trek for anyone who walks regularly. On our tours you walk 8–19 km a day, mostly 4–8 hours, with climbs of up to about 1,100 m on the hardest day. You carry only a day pack; we move your luggage.

What makes it challenging isn’t the distance but the ground. Paths are often rocky and stony, with steep climbs and descents on old mule tracks and Roman roads. Good boots and walking poles make a real difference.

West or East: which is harder?

West Lycian Way (Fethiye – Patara)

Daily distance: 6–16 km.

Terrain: Steeper and more rugged, with big climbs above the sea.

Hardest day: Faralya to Gey over Alınca, about 18 km with 1,100 m of ascent (group tour).

Best for: Keen walkers who want dramatic views.

Our tours: Self-guided from 684€ · Guided group from 895€

East Lycian Way (Antalya – Kekova)

Daily distance: 9–19 km.

Terrain: Longer days but less climbing, closer to the sea.

Hardest day: Tekirova to Çıralı, about 19 km.

Best for: Walkers who want more swimming and beach time.

Our tour: Self-guided from 765€

In general, the Western walks are shorter but steeper, and the Eastern walks are longer but with less ascent, allowing more swimming.

Do I need to be very fit?

No, but you should be comfortable walking for 5–6 hours on uneven ground, several days in a row. If you walk at weekends at home, you’ll manage. Many days on our tours have shorter options, and on some days you can take a bus or taxi for part of the way.

How we make it easier

Bag transfers every day: you carry only water, lunch and a jacket.

Shorter alternatives: on several days we offer two or three routes of different lengths.

Route notes and GPS points: for self-guided walkers, so you don’t get lost.

Local support from Kaş: if you need help on the trail.

A local guide: on our group tours, who sets the pace for the group.

What to bring

Walking boots with good grip, poles, a sun hat, sunscreen, at least 2 litres of water a day, a light rain jacket in spring and autumn, and swimwear.
