Group walking tours on the Lycian Way

Day 1. Transfer from Dalaman to Fethiye, the gateway to Lycia.

Day 1.  Your guide will meet you at Dalaman Airport.   When everyone has met-up, we have a private transfer to Fethiye, a drive of approximately 1 hour.  Group welcome briefing will be given over dinner which is included in renowned local restaurant.

Town centre comfortable hotel. BB.

Day 2. Walk from Fethiye via Kayakoy to the famous lagoon of Oludeniz

Walking straight from our hotel, we trek to the spectacular Lycian Rock tombs above Fethiye ( optional entrance fee approx. 2€)

Starting our ascent behind the crusader castle, we enter the Red Pine forest, our views improving at every step we find the old cobbled road connecting Fethiye ( Old Name Meğri – Telmessos) and Kayaköy (Old name Livissi – Karmylassos). this would have been the road that the Ottoman Greek citizens of Karmylassos used on their final departure during the population exchange in 1923.

We drop down into the farmland of Kayakoy, and walk to our hotel.  Those who have had enough walking for one day may find the swimming pool very hard to resist!

From here we trek around the ghost town of Kayaköy ( Entrance fee included).

(For those who have had enough trekking for their first day, they can walk back to the hotel, making a total trek of 9KM 500M Ascent, 300M descent.)

With excellent rugged sea views, we descend to the  Lagoon of Ölüdeniz, and can reward ourselves with a dip in the sea.

We then walk the final 2Km along the quiet lagoon road to the centre of Ölüdeniz, where we use public transport to get back to Kayaköy.

Dinner in Hotel included.  Simple hotel with swimming pool. HB

Total trekking 9km 15km 750m Ascent, 750m descent.

Day 3. Ovacik to Faralya ( Butterfly Valley)

We will take a short drive to the start of today's trek in Ovacik.

 

Starting our walk at the official start point of the Lycian Way, the trail takes us to the shoulders of Babadag ( Father Mountain 2000M) with providing us with stunning views of Oludeniz lagoon and St Nicholas island.  

We stay in a pleasant trekkers’ lodge with unforgettable views over Butterfly valley.  Dinner and next day’s picnic included (Swimming pool available)

 

Trekking approx 13km 5 Hours. 500m of ascent. 575m of descent.

Day 4. Faralya - Kabak- Alinca- Gey ( Yediburunlar village)

Today we walk right from the accommodation, climbing to abandoned terraced fields giving splendid sea views back to Oludeniz.  You can see the long peninsulas of the Fethiye bay and Datca like a map before you and the island of Rhodes is visible on a very clear day.

Keeping high above the pristine beach of Kabak, we climb on an ancient path up a seemingly impassable valley, the views improving at every step.  We will enjoy a cup of local tea at the peerless viewpoint of Alinca, enjoying the 'Seven Capes' spread out below us. (For those who have had enough walking for the day we can arrange a free transfer to the accommodation meaning you only walk 11km with 700 m ascent)  We keep walking with grand vistas to the rustic village of Gey, nicely perched on a terrace lined ridge.

 

We stay in a hospitable but simple village house / trekkers’ lodge.

Dinner and next day’s picnic included.

 

 

Trekking approx 18 km.  7 Hours. 1100m of ascent 420m of descent

Day 5. Walk Gey - Sidyma, then transfer to Patara

Bidding a sad goodbye to our gracious hosts we walk past terraced fields marveling at the beauty of this village and the beautifully contours terraces.  We climb through pine forest to bare escarpment with views to the Greek island of Rhodes, before entering a steep valley with jungle like vegetation and the smooth red barked  Strawberry trees ( Arbutus Andrachne)   before descending to Sidyma, with views across the Xanthos valley to Mt. Akdag ( 3045m)  In Sidyma we tour the site which is picturesquely  nestled within the existing village.  our bus will meet us here and take us to Patara, where we will continue on to the beach and archeological site, the metropolis of Lycia. We will have time to view this vast ancient city, some of the ruins were impeccably preserved under the sand dunes,  we will marvel at the recently restored parliament building, thought to be the earliest federal parliament in history. You can have a cooling swim and refreshing drink on the sandy beach before sunset.

Overnight in standard pansiyon. Dinner included.

 

Trekking approx 8,5 km.  4 Hours. 410m of ascent 440m of descent.

Day 6. Optional - Lycian way walking the Patara Circuit

A flexible day.  Those who want to can have a day of full relaxation on the pristine sands of Patara Beach.

For those who want to walk, we have a great walk which leaves the hotel and picks up the line of the Roman Aqueduct which brought water to Patara, the Roman period capital of Lycia.  Reaching The fascinating reverse siphon system at Delikkemer, (Those who want can be transferred back to Patara from here after 8km) . We start to follow the coast around the Yali peninsula back to Patara'

Overnight in standard pension. Dinner included.

 

Trekking approx 8 or 20 Km.  8 Hours. 380 or 750 meters of ascent 286 or 750 meters of descent.

Day 7. Drive to Sutlegen Village, Trek via Kibris Canyon to Summit of Mt. Bozkaya. Transfer to Kas

Leaving the coast, we drive 1 hour to the high mountain village of Sütleğen. 

On an ancient footpath we descend to the wooden bridge across the Kibris Canyon.  We then start to rise through the different layers of forest, Black Pine, Oak, Juniper then the Cedars of Lebanon.  Those who have had enough can end at the pass of Kuruova,  those who want to climb the peak of Bozkaya, well above the tree line can continue, before we meet our bus again and descend to Kaş, a small but stylish resort town where you will spend your last night in a comfortable hotel with a large pool and water-slide.

For dinner we will go into the town square for dinner ( included) and soak up the atmosphere.

Perhaps a last drink in one of the bars with live music ends our Lycian odyssey. 

 

Trekking 10 or 17 Km 4 or 8 Hours. 700m or 1100m uphill 600m Downhill.

Day 8. Leave Kas and transfer to Dalaman.
