Best Time to Hike the Lycian Way
The best months to hike the Lycian Way are April, May, September and October. You can walk it all year except in high summer, when the heat makes long days on the trail hard work.
In April the hills are covered in wildflowers and the days are fresh and clear. In October the sea is still warm enough for a swim at the end of each day, and the sunsets are some of the best of the year. That’s why our guided group departures run in April, May, September and October.
Month by month
March – May: Spring flowers, green hills, cool mornings, snow on the high peaks early on. Our advice: Best for walking and photography. April is our favourite month.
June: Getting hot, long days, sea warming up. Our advice: Possible with early starts and shorter days. The East section is easier.
July – August: Hot and dry, little shade on some stretches. Our advice: Not recommended for trekking. Better for swimming and boat trips.
September – November: Warm sea, settled weather, golden light, quieter trails from October. Our advice: Excellent. Combine walking with swimming every day.
December – February: Mild on the coast, but with rain and storms; some guesthouses close. Our advice: Possible on short sections with flexible dates. Ask us first.
Which section suits which season?
The West section (Fethiye to Patara) has the steepest climbs, so spring and autumn are best there. The East section (Antalya to Kekova) stays closer to the sea, with more beaches along the way, so it’s a good choice early or late in the season when a swim is part of the day.
